A first generation “ Langbordet “ coffee table in Rosewood designed by Johannes Andersen Aasbjerg during the 1950s and produced by Aasbjerg & Ortoft for Illum Bolighus in 1959.
This is a museum quality furniture, one of the early pieces that were crafted by Johannes Aasbjerg's own company by the name of Excellent Furniture Company. In the 50s it was called Aasbjerg and Ørtoft.
This model was one of the original ones called "Langbordet." It was a limited edition exhibited in the catalogue of Illums Bolighus Denmark in 1959 and retailed during the same year. In all Its simplicity It was pure minimalism at its best. Straight clean lines, geometric shapes and a pure surface made it one of the pieces that marked the Danish mid-century design history.
Due to the success of the "Langbordet." a second generation was produced in different sizes and heights in lesser quality materials mostly in teak and the legs were changed to an easier and more practical fixture. I added some pictures of the second-generation legs so to understand the difference.
Please note that we can neither confirm or deny that the veneer is 100% rio rosewood even though we purchased it as Brazilian rosewood at Bruun Rasmussen copenhagen 11 years. It carries a cites.
